Birth Control Q & A
Why is the pill so popular and what should I know about it?
The pill has been the most popular choice of birth control among women for over 30 years. It also has other benefits, like reducing cramps and menstrual bleeding and assisting with acne control. For some women, however, the pill causes breast tenderness, spotting, and nausea. Another drawback of the pill for some: you must remember to it daily and at the same time each day.
What are other popular birth control options today available through this clinic?
- The patch, which is a plastic patch that adheres to the skin and releases a continuous low dose of the hormones estrogen and progestin (the same hormones found in the pill) to prevent pregnancy.
- Nuvaring, which is a ring that’s inserted into the vagina, where it releases a continuous low dose of estrogen and progestin. It must be replaced weekly.
- Depo-Provera, a shot given four times a year.
What should I expect at my visit with Emily for birth control?
